Embro
introduces a bold ornamental language that moves beyond the conventions of traditional ceramics and embroidery. The project emerged from an experimental search for new intersections between these two disciplines, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of craft, surface, and decoration.
The nonconventional ceramic tiles were embellished using yarn, wool, elastic cords, natural leather, and synthetic materials. Their woven and embroidered structures were made possible through a system of precisely designed perforations – each with a diameter of 4 mm – integrated directly into the ceramic surface.
To ensure durability and practical use, the textile-based elements were treated with a specialized hydrophobic impregnation. The applied nanotechnology, containing silver particles, protects the surface against contaminants such as residue, grease, and oil.
Embro was developed as a Bachelor’s diploma project, combining material experimentation with a functional approach to architectural and interior surfaces. Collection received Finalist status in the Product Design category at the Taiwan International Student Design Competition in 2018
